The layout matters as much as the equipment. In a recent Bancker St Colonial, the homeowners wanted cooling in three upstairs bedrooms. We recommended an indoor unit in each bedroom so the rooms could be cooled with their doors closed.

Three upstairs mini-split zones on Bancker St, Albany
An indoor unit for each bedroom
The homeowners had bought a 1,344-square-foot, three-bedroom Colonial built in 1920. A mini-split already cooled the downstairs, but the upstairs needed attention. They had considered one indoor unit in the hallway. We discussed a separate unit in each bedroom so cooling could reach the rooms with the doors closed.
In June 2026, we installed a 3-zone Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat system, with one indoor unit per bedroom and a new outdoor unit beside the existing one. The system provided cooling and removed moisture from the upstairs air.

An indoor unit in a hallway may not reach bedrooms well when the doors are closed. At the Bancker St Colonial, we installed one unit in each of the three bedrooms. We’ll look at your layout before recommending the number of zones.
It may be possible to add a separate system for the upstairs. At Bancker St, we installed a second outdoor unit beside the existing one. We would check your equipment and layout before proposing the work.
